Description
ORIGIN: Gunpowder tea is a type of green tea originating from China. It is known for its unique appearance – also known as zhū chá, which translates to “pearl tea” or “bead tea” due to its tightly rolled leaf shape.
ABOUT: The complex production process of Gunpowder tea involves withering, steaming (or frying), rolling and drying. This tea has a bold, earthy and slightly smoky flavour with a hint of sweetness. The pellets open up during the steeping process, revealing the aroma.
BENEFITS: Like other green teas, gunpowder tea has lower levels of caffeine than black tea but higher than average green tea. It is also a good source of antioxidants.
USES: This tea is often enjoyed plain, without any additives. It is suitable for both casual sipping and more formal tea ceremonies.
BREWING: Allow 1- 1½ teaspoon per cup. Boil the water and wait for 3 to 5 minutes before pouring it onto the leaves. Steep for 2 – 3 minutes. The brewing time and water temperature can be adjusted based on personal preferences.
